Chapter 3 - Disposition
In the recovery room, Batman lies on the cot still unconscious. Sariah walks in with three assistants.
Sariah - "Bring me the electric collar, a prison jumpsuit, and a pair of boots. Here, take his boot for size. I want you three to hurry, he'll be waking up soon."
While the three assistants leave to get the items Sariah asked for, Sariah grabs Batman's mask. "Time to find out who you really are under there." She unmasks Batman and reveals his true identity. "Bruce Wayne. What's a man like you wearing a mask like this?" Sitting there, stunned at the news, she laughs to herself, "This just gets better and better. Well, we'll keep this a secret until you get comfortable here."
Sariah substitutes his mask with a black cloak. She fits it on his face comfortably, and ties it at the back of his head.
The assistant sent to retrieve the electric collar returns to Sariah's side. Sariah takes the collar and programs it with her remote control. She then places it around his neck and locks it into place. Sariah carefully removes Batman's clothes. She places his Batsuit into a labeled box along with his mask, boots, and belt. The other assistants arrive back with the jumpsuit in which they put on his body.
Batman begins to stir slightly, moaning and groaning. Sariah sits next to him, waiting for him to open his eyes. She wants to be the first thing he sees when he wakes up. She takes a stethoscope and listens to his heart and checks his pulse rate.
Sariah – "His breathing is suppressed, we need to continue monitoring him until the sedative wears off."
She sits there waiting three hours. Her assistants await standing by.
Suddenly Batman opens his eyes, reaches over, and grabs Sariah by the shirt. He stands up quickly and lifts her up, pressing her into the corner of the wall. She laughs softly in his face, while Batman stands their confused and unsteady. He begins to groan and grabs his stomach falling to his knees releasing Sariah.
Sariah – "He's gonna blow!"
One of the assistants grabs a trashcan and places it near Batman's face. Batman grabs the can and heaves into it over and over.
Sariah - "You probably stood up too fast Batman, why don't you lay back down."
She pushes him back onto the cot.
Batman - "What have you done to me?" Batman groaned, "Where am I?"
Sariah - "The tranquilizer still needs to wear off Batman. Lay down. Relax for a while. When you are feeling better, I'll come and talk to you."
Sariah leaves the cabin, telling her assistant Aisha, "Wake me when he arouses. He may be violent, so put a couple of guards on him."
Aisha - "Yes Ma'am."
Asleep in her private quarters, Aisha's voice is heard over the intercom, "Mistress!! Mistress! You'd better come quickly! The prisoner is awake and the guards can't hold him any longer!" Sariah calls back over the intercom, "I'm on my way!" Sariah slips into some clothes and dashes out of her home. She approaches with two extra guards just in time to see the assistants running out screaming. Sariah can hear the men wrestling inside with the prisoner. Suddenly both men are literally thrown out of the small building. They land on the ground in front of Sariah. Batman emerges enraged, standing at the top step. At six feet and two inches tall, his bulging muscles almost burst through the olive colored jumpsuit. His chest panting, he bellows, "Who did this to me!!!"
Sariah looks at her staff to stand down as she steps forward, "My name is Sariah Alexander, and I am responsible for bringing you here." Batman steps down from the building and assertively approaches Sariah. The Mistress maintains her ground as Batman towers over her, "Where am I?"
Sariah - "You're on Alexander Island which I own. It's located approximately one hundred and fifty nautical miles off the Eastern Seaboard. The island is about thirty miles in circumference and is almost impossible to find unless you have the exact coordinates." She folds her arms and begins to walk around Batman slowly while she explains the conditions of his imprisonment, "Your clothes, mask, and belt have been removed. You are now my prisoner on this island. You join about one hundred-fifty other prisoners from all over the world that are being detained here. These prisoners were in jail or prison in different countries and their debts were paid, by myself, in exchange for their time, and labor, here on my island. Most of them are criminals, others, perhaps, just had a bad run in with the law. They serve their purpose by fighting for me in the arena here on the island, against other prisoners. My very wealthy clients bet on those prisoners or other fighters that they bring. I in turn make a profit."
Batman - "Why have you kidnapped me? I'm not a criminal!"
Sariah stops pacing, directly in front of him, "Technically, Batman, vigilantism is a crime in the United States. But that's not why you are here. You see, I have an enemy in South America. He has a prized fighter who has never been defeated. He has challenged me to beat his fighter in my arena. The problem is, I didn't have a fighter skilled enough to defeat his, until now."
Batman - "I will not fight for you!"
Sariah - "I have a feeling, in a few days, you will change your mind Batman. I have one week to train you, and I'm prepared to do what is necessary. The life that you knew before will be forgotten. No one will find you here. There are no signals allowed to transmit to or from the island, Batman. My equipment is jamming the homing device in your belt. You won't be leaving the Island. You won't be returning home. You won't be Batman any longer."
Batman – "You won't get away with this!"
Sariah – "That's where you are wrong! Here I can do whatever I please! No one will remember you! You'll be just another mindless dope working for me. You're mine!"
Two guards grab Batman's arms just as he attempts to reach out for Sariah.
Sariah - "You can let him go." Mocking him, she states, "He wouldn't hit a woman!"
POP! Just as one of the guards releases Batman's right arm, he swings forward and strikes Sariah in the face with a closed fist. She falls to the ground, unconscious. Two guards tackle Batman to the ground, subduing him. Picking him up, they carry him to the detention center. Sariah lay there and after a few moments she begins to awaken. Her assistant slapping her face firmly,
Aisha - "Mistress? Mistress are you ok?"
Her eyes open and she looks around. Aisha helps her to her feet.
Sariah - "What happened?"
Aisha - "He hit you." She smirks slightly.
Rubbing her slightly swollen face and looking around, "That bastard! ... Where is he?"
Aisha - "They took him!"
Sariah - "Where??"
Aisha - "To Confinement!"
Sariah rushes to the detention facility where the guards open the metal doors. She makes her way into the building where they are holding Batman. As she approaches the cell, she can hear his masculine cries and the sound of a disciplinary cane whipping his body. After arriving at the cell door, the guard makes eye contact.
Sariah - "That's enough."
Charles - "Very well, Mistress." The cell door is opened and the guard walks out.
Sariah - "Leave us!" The guard walks away and Sariah stands there staring at Batman's naked backside. The single light from above lightly illuminates his dense muscular tone. The painful welts on his buttocks are barely visible. His arms are stretched out above his head and his feet spread. Both are bound by magnetic shackles, which are attached to adjustable steel strips, running along the top and bottom of the cell.
Sariah - "The normal protocol for a prisoner striking me is twenty-four lashes with the cane. I'm letting you get away with less than that! It's been a couple of years since we've had to cane anyone around here. I figure you'll learn your lesson the first time, right?"
Batman hangs there silently, painfully struggling with the shackles. Sariah slowly approaches behind him, quietly admiring his physical structure. She gently places her hand his left arm, slowly tracing his muscles with her fingertip, down his back and to his chest.
Sariah - "If your body, is any indication of your will power, then I know I will have my hands full with you."
Batman tenses up trying to pull his body away. Her hand travels down his ripped abdomen and across to his left thigh where she reaches in slightly and grasps his muscles firmly. "But every man," Sariah breathes in deeply, in sexual desperation, "Has a weakness."
Batman – "Get your damn hands off of me!"
Sariah stops, jarred out of her fantasy by his loathing tone, she pulls her hand away.
Sariah – "Fine." She turns and heads towards the cell doorway, "Then before I release you from that wall, I will take this opportunity to tell you about the collar you now wear around your neck. When activated, it will emit an electrical pulse paralyzing your muscles, and causing great pain temporarily. It has five different levels and each level increases voltage and duration. The first level is designed to merely get your attention at forty thousand volts for two seconds. From there the voltage increases at a rate of ten thousand volts and the seconds by two fold. While the first level is very annoying, the second level will drop you instantly. I have never had a prisoner go beyond the third level. I wouldn't suggest you being the first; the third level will put you in the infirmary. The fourth level will be followed by seclusion for a week. The fifth level will be followed by two weeks of seclusion and six months imprisonment. The collar has a half-mile range from the remote. I don't have to be next to you, to activate it. The remote is activated by my thumbprint only. The collar contains a tampering safety that makes the light turn from green to red. After being tampered with, the collar will emit a loud buzzing and has to be reset within five minutes or it will skip to level five and activate on it's own. The same will happen if you try and jump the perimeter wall, or some how get beyond the perimeter sensors. I won't hesitate to use it, if you decided you want to be.. difficult."
Sariah slams on the release button, stationed outside the cell. Batman's body drops to the ground quickly, landing on his backside. He rolls over to his hands and knees, trying to regain feeling in his hands and feet. Sariah walks over to him and lifts his chin to bring his eye level to hers, "I will get through to you Mr. Wayne, and I'll know it when I see the desperation in your eyes."
Batman pulls his face from her fingers, "I won't give you that pleasure!"
Sariah stands up and grabs Batman's clothes from the floor. She throws them on the ground next to him, "Get dressed. I'm putting you in a different cell for the night."
She waits for him to put his clothes on. He is angry and reluctant to show his emotions to her. She leads him down the hallway to another cell where a guard awaits with the door open. She stops at the other side of the doorway and turns towards him. He lingers by the door before entering.
Sariah - "We will start your training tomorrow beginning with an assessment of your skills. You'll stay here today and sleep in here tonight. This will give you time to gather your thoughts before tomorrow."
Batman struggles to comply, but forces himself to enter the cell willingly. The guard removes the shackles from Batman's wrists and ankles. The cell door is slammed closed upon the guard's exit. Batman remains standing, staring at Sariah, clenching his fists tightly in defiance.
Sariah - "I'll be keeping my eye on you through out the night. I suggest you get some rest. When they bring you food, you need to eat it, you'll need your strength."
Batman watches the two walk away before he decides to sit on the bed. He examines the room carefully, noticing two cameras positioned bilaterally. He listens attentively to Sariah whispering with the guard down the hall.
Charles - "What are your orders Mistress?"
Sariah - "Do an hourly physical check on him. I'll be sending the doctor by later to do a physical examination. For her safety I want two guards on him while she's here. I want to know right away if he refuses to cooperate. Make sure he gets two meals and keep me posted every two hours on his status. Also, keep an audio tap going, I want to hear everything that goes on in that room and I want a written log of everything he does; when he eats, sleeps, pees, stares at the wall, anything. Got it?"
Charles - "Yes Mistress."
Sariah turns and walks away, then stops and turns back to the guard,
Sariah - "Oh, and Charles? If he gets out of hand, do what you have to, to control him, but consult me before punishing him. Or it will be you on the other end of that cane. Understand?"
The guard looks down, a little ashamed about the flogging.
Charles - "Yes... Mistress."
Chapter 4 - Examination
Sariah continues her normal duties overseeing the island's management. She sends the doctor of the island to the prisoner a few hours later, to chart a physical, and get a baseline of his current health.
The doctor approaches the cell. The prisoner is sitting on the bed, knees bent with his head lying on his arms across his knees. In a meditative state, he sits there, listening to her approach. The guard opens the cell door for her and she steps in. Wearing her white lab coat and carrying her medical bag. Noticing the he hasn't moved, she glances down at the name on his chart, "Batman?"
He lifts his head slowly, aggravated he looks at her.
Batman - "You're the doctor I presume?"
Doctor - "My name is Doctor Shelia Amsterdam."
Batman - "Are you a real doctor?"
The doctor glances back at the guard who smiles,
Doctor - "Yes. Are you really The Batman?"
Batman - "So they say. I am being held here against my will by a lunatic and a device around my neck that could probably kill me, on an island out in the middle of nowhere. What's your story?"
Doctor - "I work for The Mistress. I'm here to take care of the staff and prisoners on the island. Right now, The Mistress wants me to give you a physical. Is that alright with you?"
Batman leans over and peeks at the guards standing in the doorway with his arms crossed.
Batman - "Do you think I really have a choice here?"
Another guard brings her a chair to sit on and he places it next to the bed. The doctor sits down on the chair and places her bag on the ground. She reaches in and grabs her stethoscope and blood pressure cuff.
Doctor - "I'm going to start by taking your blood pressure and then I'm going to check your heart and lungs."
Batman changes his position and sits on the side of the bed. The doctor puts the cuff around his arm and takes his blood pressure.
Doctor - "One hundred-forty over ninety. That's a little high, but it's understandable if you are under a lot of stress right now. I'm going to listen to your heart and lungs, I'm going to need you to take in a few deep breathes."
After checking his lungs, she listens to his heart for few moments. The doctor then puts away her equipment and retrieves her otoscope. She examines his pupil dilation and looks in his ears and throat.
Doctor - "Everything looks good so far."
The doctor places her hands on Batman's throat, checking for swollen glands, and taps on his forehead and face for sinus trouble. She tests his muscle resistance and strength in his arms and legs by pulling and pushing firmly on his limbs.
Doctor - "Go ahead and lie down on your back and relax. I'm just going to check your abdomen."
Doctor Amsterdam presses firmly on his organs, "Any tenderness in those areas?" Batman shakes his head. "Good. You can sit up now."
Sheila puts her scope back into the bag and pulls out a few small vials, a hypodermic needle, and a plastic specimen cup.
Doctor - "Before you were brought here, did you have any previous health problems that I should know about?"
Batman - "None of which is any of your business."
The doctor again takes a seat in front of Batman.
Doctor - "While I am not your personal physician Batman, your health and well being, while here on this island, are important to me."
Batman - "Because it's your job, or because you actually care?"
Doctor - "Both! It is my job to care and I take my job seriously. I have to take some blood and run some tests on it. Can you hold out your arm?"
Annoyed, Batman rolls up his sleeve and holds out his arm on her leg.
Batman - "Do you care that she has me here against my will?"
Doctor - "You are going to feel a little stick. Yes I care."
Batman - "Is there anything you can do to.."
Doctor - "Listen, I believe she knows what she is doing, and she will take care of you while you are here."
Batman - "You trust her that much? How long have you known her?"
Shelia finishes filling the vials and removes the needle. She places a bandage on his arm, and puts the vials back her bag.
Doctor - "Of coarse I trust her, and I've known her all my life. She's my sister. She's a very intelligent woman, and if she thinks that kidnapping you was the right thing to do, then I believe her."
Batman - "So your judgment is biased."
The doctor hands Batman a specimen cup, "Even though I have a biased opinion Batman, I am not heartless, and neither is she. I need a sample."
Batman swipes the cup from her hands looking at her upset. He walks over to the toilet in the corner and forces himself to render a specimen. He returns it to her half full, then proceeds to wash his hands in small sink. The doctor twists the lid onto the cup and places it into her bag. She begins to walk out but stops and looks at him with empathy, "Just keep one thing in mind while you are here, Batman; she needs you. You are indispensable to her, despite what she says to get you to be obedient and loyal. She does have moral boundaries."
Batman - "And what will happen to me when she doesn't need me anymore?"
The doctor looks down at the ground, then back up again, "Only time will tell, Batman."
Doctor Amsterdam walks out of the facility, and the guard closes the door behind her.
Sheila finds Sariah at the gym running on the treadmill. Sariah sees Sheila enter the building and she pushes the stop button on the treadmill. Covered in sweat, she towel dries as Sheila approaches. Still breathing heavily she asks, "How did it go?"
Doctor - "A little bothered, but otherwise he was very cooperative."
Sariah - "Good! We'll see if it continues tomorrow."
Sariah squirts water into her mouth from her bottle.
Doctor - "How are you doing? I heard he hit you good." The doctor examines the side of her face, "You're face looks a little swollen."
Sariah - "I lost consciousness. I didn't think he'd really do it."
Doctor - "You corner a wild animal, Sariah, you'll get bit."
Sariah swipes Sheila's hand away from her face, "Yeah, yeah. Is he cleared for training tomorrow?"
Doctor - "Short of having the test results back, he's as healthy as a horse."
The doctor follows Sariah as she walks towards the exit.
Sariah - "Be ready tomorrow. I don't know how he will react to tomorrow's training, or how far he will go to try and escape."
Sheila - "I'll have a bed ready. One of you might need it!"
After leaving the building, both women go their separate ways.
In the recovery room, Batman lies on the cot still unconscious. Sariah walks in with three assistants.
Sariah - "Bring me the electric collar, a prison jumpsuit, and a pair of boots. Here, take his boot for size. I want you three to hurry, he'll be waking up soon."
